Top Ten Tuesday was created by The Broke and the Bookish in June of 2010 and was moved to That Artsy Reader Girl in January of 2018. It was born of a love of lists, a love of books, and a desire to bring bookish friends together.
Sherwood by Meagan Spooner
After loving Hunted, I have been patiently waiting for the next book by Meagan Spooner with her twist on a well known story. A girl version of Robin Hood is exactly what I’ve been waiting for and I can’t wait to get my hands on a copy of this book! Luckily I think I have an ARC on the way so this dream shouldn’t be far from reality here soon!
The Beautiful by Renee Ahdieh
Not only is this a book about vampires set in New Orleans, but its also got a character with the same last name as I have! And I don’t have a very common last name…! So if this isn’t a sure sign of this being a book I NEED TO READ, then I don’t know what is! I’ve always had a thing for Vampire books and here lately I haven’t been reading many so this will be a must read for me at least to get back into the whole vampire genre again! Also, Ahdieh always tends to have some heart renching romance, so I’m prepared for my heart to break, bring it on!
Sorcery of Thorns by Margaret Rogerson
I was on the fence about Rogerson’s first book, An Enchantment of Ravens. But really when looking back on it, I think the only reason I had a hard time saying I love it is because I’m so used to trilogies and series of books versus the elusive stand alone, so when I finished An Enchantment of Ravens I was left feeling like something was still missing. There wasn’t enough story there for me, but that’s not to say that I didn’t really love and enjoy the story anyway! I just wanted more! So I’m giving her another shot with Sorcery of Thorns, and hopefully I won’t regret giving this author another shot. Can we please talk about how much I love this cover though?! Both of her book covers have been so pretty!!! I’m a sucker for a pretty cover !
The Priory of the Orange Tree by Samantha Shannon
This book has been getting so much hype for so long now that I don’t think that I could pass this one up if I tried. I finally caved and added it to my TBR here recently though after seeing some amazing reviews about it. I also managed to snag a pre-order for a signed copy! I can’t wait to see what all the fuss is about and get into what looks to be an epic fantasy with some dragons and I would assume, an orange tree..!
Dev1at3 by Jay Kristoff
Lifel1k3 was one of my favorite reads from last year, so it should be of no surprise that the next book in this series would be on my up and coming TBR! I can’t wait to read about more Lemon Fresh and how she’s going to handle the crazy twist at the end of the first book! I’m excited that this one is going to be written from her POV for a lot of the book because she was one of my favorite characters from the first book!
The Devouring Gray by Christine Lynn Herman
I’ve heard this book compared to a number of different things from the Raven Cycle, to Stranger Things, to Riverdale. All of which are fandoms that I love so naturally I had to add this to my TBR because I’m an addict and I can’t help but adding every single book that I see to my to-read list..! But I’ve been trying to hold back here lately and only adding the ones I am positive I am going to read, and this one happened to make the cut. I haven’t read anything by this author before but here lately I’ve enjoyed getting to read some of these authors debut books and I’ve been pleasantly surprised. So I’m looking forward to this dark and twisted book and hoping that it is just as enjoyable as its promised to be.
The Merciful Crow by Margaret Owen
This is another new author with a debut book. I’ve always gone by the notion that an author’s first book is usually their best, they spend so much time and energy into getting that first piece of work they put out there perfect. Without deadlines to write the next book and the next, authors can really take their time putting so much love into a first book. So for that reason I usually find that I really enjoy debut books by new authors. I was also drawn to this book because it sounds a little like The Boneless Mercies with their taste for mercy killing and bad reputation. I loved that book and I’ve been looking for something similar since I finished it and hopefully this will be that book!
Empire of the Vampire by Jay Kristoff
All I need to say here is Jay Kristoff and Vampires. Do you need more to immediately add this to your TBR? I mean I really didn’t but thats not all this book has in store. It will also have illustrations throughout the book!! Basically you get your fanart and your book all in one here, could I be any more convinced? Not really. But in case you do need convincing this is going to be such a different take on the usual vampire story. Because in this world, the sun set twenty-seven years ago and hasn’t risen since. Vampires are able to walk freely knowing that won’t be burned alive and therefore humanity has dwindled down to a few scattered settlements fighting to survive. Tell me you aren’t interested now!?! I honestly can’t wait until fall of 2020 so I can get my hands on this book and devour it in all its amazing glory!
Warrior of the Wild by Tricia Levenseller
Tricia Levenseller has my whole bookish heart after falling in love with her Daughter of the Pirate King duology last year. I couldn’t get enough of the sassy conversations and angsty love story, and badass and fiesty Captain Alosa. Once finished all I could think was that I wanted more more more! So I’m beyond excited to read Levenseller’s take on a viking story and it can’t get here fast enough! Luckily I only have to wait until next month, and I’m chomping at the bit!
Lady Smoke by Laura Sebastian
There was something about Ash Princess last year that made it one of those books that I couldn’t put down. I flew through it in a matter of one day and was ready for the next book immediately. But that’s the downside of reading books right as they are published because if they are part of a series, you’re then stuck waiting another year or sometimes more for the next installment to satiate your new book appetite. Thank god for all the other amazing books out there to tide me over otherwise I would be an impatient mess (not that I’m not anyway) but nonetheless, I have been waiting for Lady Smoke since last year and I’m definitely looking forward to seeing where this series goes.
What about you all? Do you we have any books coming up in common? Do you like to wait for an entire series to be written before you read them? Or do you suffer the wait like myself? What are you looking forward to reading this year? What’s on your TBR?! Let me know!
