22674105China Rich Girlfriend (Crazy Rich Asians #2) by Kevin Kwan

As Rachel and Nik’s wedding approaches, someone manages to find her birth father and he manages to make it to the ceremony. With an attempt to spend time with her newly reunited father she heads to Shanghai. There she once again is thrust into the life of Chinese socialites and they have as much drama as the Kardashians.

The Story

The second book continues much like the first book did, jumping from point of view to point of view. The pacing in this book felt quite a bit more drawn out, especially because I started to not care about the characters, including Rachel. I think since it wasn’t very romance driven (Rachel and Nick’s relationship) I lost interest. I mean, it could be entertaining for other people, but that’s why I read most contemporary books.

The underlying superficialism grated on my nerves and I had to once again switch to audiobook to even finish this book. By the end this time though, I was just plain relieved that it was over. I don’t think I will be continuing the story and that’s simply because I don’t care about these people. If you are the type to enjoy reading about scandals and tricky family dynamics, than I’d say that this book is probably more up your alley than it was mine. Because that’s all it is. A bunch of rich people fighting and being conniving all the while you’re drowning in name brands.

The Characters

I don’t even know what to say here, because there are just so many dang characters. I’ll just focus on Rachel again, because I still consider her the main character. This book made me so annoyed with her. As I was going through the book (at least her sections), I thought what are you doing? Like, why are you there? Just go home, and have your father visit you there. All the other characters are just as frustrating. And Nick, gosh, I still think he doesn’t deserve her.
