Darcy has been sharing Mike Valeska with her twin brother since he first moved into their neighborhood as kids. Since, her brother claimed him first she was left with just 1% of him being her friend. He has always been the measuring stick for the men in her life, and none of them compare to his all around perfection. Now they’re adults and he is working on a remodel the house left to the twins by their recently deceased grandmother. Their attraction to each other is palpable, and Darcy is bent on making her 1% a 100%

The Story

Sally Thorne kept me waiting so, so long and didn’t let me down. After The Hating Game I just knew that Sally was an auto-buy author for me. I have a soft spot for the crush on the brother’s best friend trope, so it holds an extra special place in my heart. I have to be careful from now on though – don’t start Sally’s books before bed because I won’t go to sleep.

This book is so damn cute, hilarious, and romantic. Following the story of the house remodel, we get to experience all the tension between Darcy and Mike as they try to go about what needs to be done without tearing down the whole house by holding themselves back. Though a simple story, it was incredibly entertaining. All the while we get to explore what it means to hold a standard early on in your romantic life, being separated from loved ones, and facing the decisions you make. Sally writes in a way that makes me want to personally be a side character in the story to see it unfold.

The romance is so frustrating because we just know they’re jonesing for each other from the get go and we have to wait and wait and wait. And oh man, they are such a tease to each other. Mike does this thing where he fixes Darcy’s tank top strap, and every single time I swear I could feel his big hands sliding up my arm. Yum. So much yum.

The Characters

Darcy is so feisty and sure of herself, I love it. What I love about her though is, despite her independence and ability to take off on a whim, she still needs to be her brother’s twin. It’s borderline codependent on him, but what’s to be expected of twins? I love that she can be so tough yet so tender about her relationship with him.  Like she wants to be her own person, yet she doesn’t know who she is without him.

Mike is so hard on himself. He has so much pressure to be the one to take care of everything and fix everything when it breaks. I am surprised he didn’t chase after Darcy the moment she ran away the first time. I love that even though he doesn’t think he’s perfect that he still does his best to be it.
