This a meme that we have started here at Vicariously & Voraciously in attempt to organize our thoughts for all the books we are currently reading. This is so we can update the status of how far along we are in our current reads, how we are liking it so far, and any other general current updates on the books as we read them. Feel free to use this prompt to keep your currently reading status up to date with us! It can be used weekly, once a month, or as often as you like. We love to see what everyone is reading and what they think!
A Love Hate Thing by Whitney D. Grandison
Current Status: 1% (ebook ARC)
I just got notified that I’ll be doing a Blog Tour for this ARC on the 13th so looks like I need to get reading!! I’ve really been liking the rom com surge that has been going on lately. And it seems to be a fad with these illustrated covers that I love!!! I can’t wait to crack into this one and fall in love with these characters!!
Mr. Penumbra’s 24-Hour Bookstore by Robin Sloan
Current Status: 100% (Library Audiobook)
This was a random library pick for something to listen to while I drive and surprisingly it caught my attention enough to want to continue on with it until the end. I will say it wasn’t what I would normally read, and was a bit dry in that aspect, but still had enough intrigue to keep me listening to find out what was up with this strange bookstore and this even stranger Mr. Penumbra. Even had to look up Penumbra to see what it meant (the outer region of a shadow) because I knew I’d heard of it before!! Still it really didn’t have anything to do with the book… In the end though I wasn’t wowed by this book and probably won’t put it on my shelf of favorites but it was still an enjoyable bit of entertainment to keep my mind occupied whilst stuck on the road an hour a day in rush hour traffic!
The Starless Sea by Erin Morgenstern
Current Status: 52% (Audio Book)
It honestly breaks my heart to say this right now, but I’m having a tough time with this one. I keep reading and reading (well listening) and to be honest, I have absolutely NO CLUE what is going on in this book right now!!! Its beautifully written, like poetry or folklore, and the little stories in between the main storyline are really neat and fun to read, but then I’m trying to keep up with everything going on and its extremely difficult for some reason. Like I’m not even sure if I’m supposed to be connecting these smaller stories in with the main story or if they are something separate altogether? I’m going to keep at it because maybe it all ties together in the end, but as of right now I’m struggling big time and it makes me so sad!!! Fingers crossed things get better!!
Have you read any of these books? If so, what did you think of them? I’m definitely going to attempt to back away from ARCS a little more in 2020 and focus on things that I’ve been wanting to read and go through the never-ending pile of To Read books at home that has gotten a bit overwhelming.. What are your most anticipated reads of 2020?? Hope you all had a fantastic holiday season!!! And a Happy New Year!!!
