This a meme that we have started here at Vicariously & Voraciously in attempt to organize our thoughts for all the books we are currently reading. This is so we can update the status of how far along we are in our current reads, how we are liking it so far, and any other general current updates on the books as we read them. Feel free to use this prompt to keep your currently reading status up to date with us! It can be used weekly, once a month, or as often as you like. We love to see what everyone is reading and what they think!
The Sword and the Dagger by Robert Cochran
Current Status: 60% (ebook ARC)
I am loving this book so far!!! Its reminding me a little of The Kiss of Deception which was a favorite of mine last year so that same feeling has me wanting to read this as much as possible! I like the dynamic between the characters and how you’re wondering how in the world they are going to make it through this journey without killing each other!! My only issue at this moment and it could just be the fact that its an ARC is that sometimes its not clear when the POV from one character to another changes and it throws me off for a minute trying to figure out who’s POV I’m reading from at random times throughout the chapters. Hopefully this gets corrected in the final edit for this book. (Happy release day yesterday – I’m obviously running a little late on getting this one read and reviewed but oh well 🙂 lol) .
Bloodleaf by Crystal Smith
Current Status: 5% (ebook)
Just picked this one up last night because I realized that my library copy is due in 6 days!! AHH! So I’ll be speed reading this one in hopes to finish it before its due back! I read another telling of “The Goose Girl” a while back and really really liked the story so I’m hoping that this one will also be a good read! Basically I’m a sucker for any fairytale retelling… so I’m not too worried. So far even only a little way into the book, I’m liking the writing and it feels like its going to be easy to pick up and jump in.
To Best the Boys by Mary Weber
Current Status: 100% (ebook)
Finished this one over the weekend and IT WAS AMAZING! I loved the magic realism vibe where it obviously had some magic to it, but it wasn’t overdone throughout the plot. The characters still had to use their brains and didn’t use magic as an easy out. It was extremely fast paced once they were in the labyrinth and I was there for the long haul at that point. Something about it maybe the setting or the relationship between father and daughter of the MC reminded me of Spectacle by Jodie Lynn Zdrok, although I will say that I enjoyed To Best the Boys SOOOO much more! The romance hit me in all the feels and had me swooning 🙂 I couldn’t stop highlighting sweet quotes and rereading certain confession scenes! I really enjoyed this and I think I’ll have to pick up some of Mary Weber’s other books to see if they are as good as this was!
Traitor to the Throne by Alwyn Hamilton
Current Status: 12% (Audiobook)
Not sure what it is, but I’m going soooooo much slower with this audiobook. I think its all the ARCs that have deadlines that are keeping me from being able to set aside time to sit and listen. That and the pacing of this book is a lot different than the first. I was ready for that same feeling from Rebel of the Sands where I couldn’t stop listening for the life of me. But here I’m struggling. Maybe I just need to get through the beginning of the book before it picks up like the last. Either way, I’m ever so slowly making my way through this one. I’ll have it finished one day here soon haha.
What are you all reading this week? Have you been staying on top of your reading goals? Are you ahead of your goal? Behind? What do you do to keep yourself on track? I have been alternating between an arc and then a finished copy that I’ve been wanting to read, just to keep myself from getting burnt out on all the e-arcs I have piling up because I can’t quit requesting from NetGalley!!! This was my busiest month book wise though so I knew I was going to be a bit chaotic for April anyway. I’d love to know what you all have on your book schedule!
