This a meme that we have started here at Vicariously & Voraciously in attempt to organize our thoughts for all the books we are currently reading. This is so we can update the status of how far along we are in our current reads, how we are liking it so far, and any other general current updates on the books as we read them. Feel free to use this prompt to keep your currently reading status up to date with us! It can be used weekly, once a month, or as often as you like. We love to see what everyone is reading and what they think!
The Caged Queen by Kristen Ciccarelli
Current Status: pg. 75 of 400
Getting into this one has been a little slow going for me. I think I wasn’t really looking forward to Roa’s POV for some reason. But now that I’m into it more, I am getting back into the rhythm of the characters and the world and its picking up. I was so mad at Dax at first though being such a jerk to Roa and not caring about being the King he promised he would be, he’s slowly getting better though so hopefully he continues to improve because I don’t want to hate him!! Roa is a lot more likeable of a character than I first though also. I’m starting to see her side of the story and its interesting to see how things came to be as they are for the scrublanders. The writing in these books really takes you right to the scene and it starts to feel like you aren’t even reading so I’m excited to get into this one a little more this week
The Graveyard Book by Neil Gaiman
Current Status: pg. 336 of 336
We are doing a fun tag here starting the end of this month where we are planning on taking the oldest book from our TBR and either reading it and reviewing it, or taking it off our TBR list completely. This was my first book for this challenge and I decided that it was one I wanted to read. So I picked this up on Monday morning of this week, and was finished with it by Monday night! It was such a fun and addicting read! I knew that this book has been on my radar for quite some time now but I wasn’t expecting to like it as much as I did! Neil Gaiman is one of those authors that I know I can pick up pretty much anything he writes and enjoy it thoroughly so I guess I shouldn’t be as surprised as I am but this was a great book full of some amazing quotes. Then I found out that its actually based loosely around a re-imagining of The Jungle Book but instead of growing up with wolves, he grows up with ghosts and instead of the jungle, its a graveyard. This was great! Definitely worth the read!
The Gilded Wolves by Roshani Chokshi
Current Status: pg. 356 of 400
Keeping up with the ARCs, this book was just published yesterday actually! I started reading it over the weekend and while I was really distracted with babysitting and house chores, I didn’t get much time to really get into it. But yesterday was apparently the day to read because I knocked out almost the entire book in one sitting last night. I am so in love with this book as of right now its reminding me of Six of Crows and while discussing it with Scrill, she mentioned some National Treasure vibes which I can totally see as well. I love a story about an awesome gang of misfits that when banded together become an unstoppable force, and I have fallen in love with each and every one of these amazing characters. I love their individuality as well as their love for each other. Also the amount of scheming and plotting in this book is so much fun. It blows my mind when an author can come up with such extravagant plots that keep you wondering what could possibly happen next and this book has kept me on the edge of my seat pretty much the whole time. I love it and I can’t wait to finish it today!!
Let’s Discuss
Do we have any books in common? What are you reading this week! I have found that sometimes its nice to take a weekend off reading here and there and just refresh your mind because when you get back into it, things feel so much more enjoyable. I have been flying through my reading this week because I took the time to rest over the weekend. It also feels great when you find a batch of amazing books as well to get you back into the swing of things. What do you do to keep your mind fresh and ready to read?
