This was originally made by Lost in a Story, and is such a fantastic idea. Here are the instructions:

Go to your goodreads to-read shelf.
Order on ascending date added.
Take the first 5 (or 10 if you’re feeling adventurous) books
Read the synopses of the books
Decide: keep it or should it go?

In case you didn’t catch this disclaimer from last week, Scrill has passed the torch on to me, so to say. She has officially gotten to the part of her TBR list where its all mostly recent additions and so therefore they are all books she definitely wants to keep. Now we are going to tackle my insane TBR. And disclaimer: Its out of control. I’m not sure how I’ve amassed so many books on there, but lets just say it really needs a thorough clean up. Hopefully it will be fun to see what crazy books I have on the never ending list and you’ll get just as much of a kick out of it as I do! Lets begin, shall we?

The Books:

3682Book #3922

A Great and Terrible Beauty (Gemma Doyle #1) by Libba Bray
Date added: January 24, 2012

While this sounds like a really interesting book, I also am not sure if I want to read about a book where the MC’s mother commits suicide. There’s something to that subject that just seems like it would put me in a dark place and I’m not in the mood for that right now. So off the list this one goes.

THE JUDGEMENT: Go

11737311Book #3921

The Treachery of Beautiful Things by Ruth Frances Long
Date added: April 19, 2012

This sounds more like the fantasy, fairy tale, with a touch of romance I like. I think that this one would definitely be a book I’d read someday. I’m always a fan of faeries and anything with a love story so this sounds like a keeper.

THE JUDGEMENT: Keep

83369Book #3920

The Mysterious Benedict Society (The Mysterious Benedict Society #1) by Trenton Lee Stewart
Date added: April 19, 2012

Yes please! Even though this is a book targeted for a younger audience, it still sounds like so much fun. It sounds like everything that makes childhood fun. A mysterious society, a test to gain entry, undercover operations and so much more. I definitely will be reading this one at some point.

THE JUDGEMENT: Keep

10425811Book #3919

Liesl & Po by Lauren Oliver
Date added: April 19, 2012

I need to get rid of more books but when they sound so cute and somewhat creepy like this one how am I supposed to say no?! I like the idea of a sweet ghost story. The idea that ghosts aren’t all bad and evil and out to get us is a great way to think and I think I’d really enjoy this little book.

THE JUDGEMENT: Keep

81524Book #3918

The Dark Hills Divide (The Land of Elyon #1) by Patrick Carman
Date added: April 19, 2012

I mean I guess there is a reason I added these a long while ago, and this one sounds like one I would abosolutely love. But the point of this exercise is to get rid of some books from my out of control TBR and so therefore I will cut this one. If it happens to pop up sometime later down the road and I read it then, so be it, but for now its a go.

THE JUDGEMENT: Go

6101718Book #3917

The Magicians (The Magicians #1) by Lev Grossman
Date added: April 19, 2012

I am obsessed with the TV show based off of this series, and I’ve been wanting to see if the books are as good as the show. I actually already have this on my kindle and I’ve just been waiting for that opening in my reading so I can jump into these books.

THE JUDGEMENT: Keep

10772903Book #3916

Those Across the River by Christopher Buehlman
Date added: April 19, 2012

This book sounds extremely creepy and not at all what I’m interested in at the moment. Maybe would be a fun read for October when I’m in a spooky mood but at the moment it is a no for me.

THE JUDGEMENT: Go

9591398Book #3915

The Girl Who Circumnavigated Fairyland in a Ship of Her Own Making (Fairyland #1) by Catherynne M. Valente
Date added: April 19, 2012

YES! This book is a keep! I actually started this a long long lonnggg time ago and just got distracted with, well, life. But I do remember loving what I read so I will go back and finish this hopefully soon!!

THE JUDGEMENT: Keep

12971662Book #3914

Monstrous Beauty by Elizabeth Fama
Date added: April 19, 2012

I love fairy tale retellings and this sounds like a dark and twisted version of The Little Mermaid. This might have to go on the list for MerMay!

THE JUDGEMENT: Keep

8306761Book #3913

For Darkness Shows the Stars (For Darkness Shows the Stars #1) by Diana Peterfreund
Date added: April 19, 2012

I’m torn on this one, while on one hand a book inspired by Jane Austen’s Persuasion sounds like a must read, and on the other hand I have had it on my list for so long and still never gotten around to it. I’ll nix it but still know its out there and if I ever feel in the mood for an Austen style book, I’ll know what to pick up.

THE JUDGEMENT: Go

Starting TBR shelf total: 3933

Total books kept: 6

Let’s Discuss

Well I guess I could have done a little better clearing out my list, at this rate its not going to be decreasing very quickly. But oh well, there’s a reason I added them all in the first place.. they sound so good! What do you think of my decisions, any you would have chosen differently? Any that you think aren’t worth keeping, or that I should have kept? I’d love to know what you think!
